Natalie - Owner of Wild Abundance

What is your occupation and what made you interested in getting into your field?

I am the director of Wild Abundance, a school that teaches women's carpentry, in-person tiny house classes, online tiny house classes, and much more. Building my own houses and structures has massively changed how I walk in the world. I come to life with way more confidence. It is extremely important to me to offer women the skills that they need so that they may feel a similar sense of empowerment. I worked for some time on carpentry crews, taking natural building classes, building, and teaching in other fields, like gardening and wild foods, before becoming a building teacher 10 years ago.

What excites you about your job?

Seeing the transformation from tentative beginner to competence that takes place in the women in our classes.

What are some of the challenges you face?

Trying to do too many things, building codes, and inspectors. Balancing children, family, and work.

Is there any advice you would give to someone entering the field?

Let your confidence shine through a base of humility.
