Shannon – Carpenter

What made you interested into getting into your field?

My mom is a truck driver so I always knew I could do anything I wanted. I took woodworking my freshman year of high school and I fell in love. I knew I had found my place in life.

What do you love about your field?

I love seeing a plot of land go from dirt to a place where lives can be changed forever. I love meeting new people and finding friends that will last a life time. I also love to see the history that can be uncovered from remodeling an old building.

What types of challenges have you faced as a women and how have you overcome them?

I have faced a lot of disgusting words from people that are closed minded. I have been told a woman shouldn’t be in the field and we should just be in the kitchen. I turned their hate into drive to become a better worker.

Is there any advice you would give to women entering the field?

Don’t give up because people don’t believe in you. Do what your heart tells you.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I am a 2020 graduate and I already have a year under my belt at my company Robertson Construction Services!
